Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" area. This West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a vast part that stretches from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island, although this is not true. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. The first goal she had was to be a dancer but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond her dance partner. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inches." As I got bigger than my male counterparts, I gave up. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was an urging by her drama teacher. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition as Anne in the school's annual production. She auditioned and eventually got the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she has appeared in 60 different productions including big screen productions as well as smaller screens. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel played the role of Rita in the Handmaid's Tale which was filming over 10 years ago.
